| Avant-garde German composer Karlheinz Stockhausen has died at the age of 79. One of the most important and controversial postwar composers, he helped shape a new understanding of sound through electronic compositions. Stockhausen, who gained fame through his ground-breaking works in the 1960s and 70s and later moved into composing works for huge theatres and other projects, died at his home in the western German town of Kuerten on Wednesday, his publisher the Stockhausen Verlag said. more
